Somerville Family Learning Collaborative
Established in 2011, the Somerville Family Learning Collaborative (SFLC) is the department of family and community engagement of the Somerville Public Schools. The SFLC’s mission is to enhance the capacity of families and schools to support children’s learning and wellbeing by collaborating with community partners and promoting welcoming, responsive schools and programs. SFLC is supported in part by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care. Coordinated Family and Community Engagement (CFCE) grant recipient.
Somerville families with young children can access a wide range of supports designed to promote healthy development, school readiness, and family engagement. Services include home visiting programs for infants and toddlers, multilingual playgroups and parent support groups, developmental screenings for children from 2 months to 5 years old, assistance with enrolling in Somerville Public Schools, interpretation services and family liaison support, English classes for parents, volunteer opportunities, and connections to community resources. Families can also receive help accessing housing and basic needs services, as well as information about childcare, after-school programs, summer activities, food resources, and other local supports.
